After an accident, obtain the other driver’s insurance information and a copy of his or her driver’s license. Get in touch with your insurance company even if the accident was not your fault and tell them what happened. In some cases, your insurance company will get in touch with the other driver’s insurance company to file a claim. In other cases, you may have to call the company and personally file a claim.
You will then be assigned an insurance adjuster and a claim number either from your agency or from the other driver’s agency depending on the circumstances of the accident. You will communicate with that adjuster until you have reached a fair settlement of your claim.
